On Monday, March 20, Attorney George Kounopis, partner and co-founder of our firm, spoke along with several other renowned presenters about the state of mediation as it pertains to Greek-American relations. The International Meeting for Mediation event was held in Athens, Greece, at the behest of the Greek Prime Minister. It was co-sponsored by a number of key international finance and commerce organizations, including the:
- ADR Promotion Organisation
- American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce
- British-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce
- CCI France Grèce
- The Hellenic Dutch Association of Commerce and Industry
- The Hellenic Bank Association
- The Hellenic German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Deutsch-Griechische Industrie und Hamdelskammer)
- Italian-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce (Camera di Commercio Italo-Ellenica di Salonicco)
- Hellenic-Canadian Chamber of Commerce
Mr. Kounopis' presentation dealt specifically with the U.S. mediation system, and how it is practiced both by administrative agencies (agencies of local, state and federal governments) and by federal courts.
The event was in honor of Mediation Day, and was designed to give attendees real-world information about the practice of mediation, a method of dispute resolution that empowers participants to reach their own solutions with the help of a neutral third party to guide them. Mediation is popular around the world as a means of resolving disputes between individuals, companies and government entities alike in a non-adversarial way and without the need for protracted litigation.
